How a Timely Intervention Made All the Difference

“I love helping people. It is what I feel I was meant to do in the world.” Tony T., ISR representative at Connect America

At Connect America, our team’s commitment goes beyond just installing medical alert devices — and this heroic story proves it. Here’s how one local installer’s quick thinking and compassion made an incredible impact.

A Routine Visit Becomes Urgent

When Tony arrived at a new subscriber’s home for their medical alert installation, he expected it to be like any other normal day. He knocked on the door several times and waited, but there was no answer. Thinking the subscriber had simply forgotten about the appointment, he tried to reach her by phone — but still there was no response. A few moments later, a neighbor, who was outside, reassured him that the subscriber should indeed be home. Tony sensed something might be wrong, so he called the subscriber’s emergency contact to express his concern. The contact quickly responded and drove over to unlock the door.

As soon as the door opened and they entered the home, they found the subscriber lying on the bedroom floor, weak and in distress. It was clear she had been unwell through the night, and unable to get help.

Help Arrives Just in Time

Without wasting a second, they called an ambulance. Paramedics arrived and rushed her to the ER, where she received the care, she needed.

Gratitude for a Quick Intervention

Everyone involved was overwhelmed with gratitude. If Tony hadn’t trusted his instincts and acted promptly, the outcome could have been much worse. Thanks to Tony’s quick action, the subscriber received the urgent care she needed. Moving forward, she will have her medical alert service, to ensure help will always be within reach.

It’s moments like these that remind us how fortunate we are to work with such incredible individuals who make a meaningful impact every day.

Tony T. is an Advanced EMT for Pottawatomie County EMS in Kansas and has spent the past eight years as an installer for Connect America. Outside of work, he dedicates his time to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter for Americus, KS.
